Welcome to another year at Colorado College! …And to another year of academic challenge, friends and fun times, and…innovation! One of Colorado College’s core values states that as members of this campus community, we should strive to “nurture…an ethic of environmental sustainability.” With this in mind, I am pleased to introduce to you a new online version of your student guide, The Pathfinder. Although limited printed copies of The Pathfinder will be available in the student life office, you will not receive a printed copy of it in your student mailbox, as in previous years. You will be able to access The Pathfinder online at www.ColoradoCollege.edu/resources/ The Pathfinder online also outlines the academic and conduct policies of Colorado College, which affect both curricular and extra-curricular activities. These have been developed through careful consideration and in consultation with students, faculty and staff, and trustees. Please familiarize yourself with these policies and consider The Pathfinder online to be your first reference when you have a policy question. If you do not find the answer you seek on the Web, the student life office and other college offices stand ready to assist you. I will also welcome your critiques and constructive ideas regarding possible policy revisions. I would like to introduce you to two new members of the student life staff. Roger Smith is our new international student specialist. He will assist our international students with their transition to our community and support them as they encounter academic and cultural challenges. Roger is extremely knowledgeable about international student visas and immigration law. Heather Browne is our new coordinator of off-campus study. Heather will provide advising and administrative support to students interested in studying off campus in approved domestic and international programs. Both Roger’s and Heather’s offices are located on the second floor of Worner Center. Stop by and visit! If you are a returning student, The Pathfinder online is not the only innovation you will notice this year. Of course, you will see the now-complete Cornerstone Arts Center on the corner of Cascade Avenue and Cache La Poudre Street. If you were not able to take a peek inside last year, you must do so soon! It is a magnificent multi-dimensional facility! Another noticeable change to the campus landscape is the alteration of the Downtown Shuttle route. The shuttle now stops just inside the entrance to the Armstrong parking lot and then loops around the lot on its way back down N. Tejon Street. With the addition of this extra traffic, please be safety-conscious as you walk, bike or drive through the Armstrong lot on your way around campus. Finally, two changes which will most affect your day-to-day life as a CC student include the switch to a new “one-card” Gold Card system and a change in food service providers. The new Gold Card will enable you to take advantage of all necessary campus services with one card, including: photo identification, dining access, residence hall security, cashless transactions, library access, sports/activity tickets, as well as many vending services such as laundry, copiers, and snack machines. Please note that the Gold Card office will soon be located on the first floor of Ticknor Hall. And we are all thrilled to welcome Bon Appetit to campus as our new food service provider. Bon Appetit was selected by committee as our new provider after a year-long search process, and they have been hard at work over the summer adding their special touches to our dining locations. I know they are eager to show our community what they can do to provide innovative and delicious dining options at CC. I hope that you will embrace these innovations, as I have, as signs of a vibrant and thriving campus. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your suggestions about how to make the Colorado College community—our community—the best it can be. Sincerely, Mike L. Edmonds |
