PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS We are pleased to offer exceptional high school students the opportunity to participate in our college classes during Summer Session. We encourage interested students to enroll in a course or two in order to experience college-level learning as a college-preparatory exercise and introduction to liberal learning in the arts and sciences. Summer Session is also the perfect opportunity for interested students to try Colorado College's unique academic scheduling system, the intensive "block" plan, which entails taking one class at a time for an intensive three to three-and-one-half week period. Because the traditional term is therefore cut short, students can take one course here at Colorado College and still have time to enjoy family vacations, part-time jobs, and other extracurricular activities. High school students are eligible to enroll in our regular undergraduate Summer Session courses. In addition to full participation in the courses of their choosing, high school students are offered special residential life and college preparatory programming. The pre-college program will consist of special sessions on the college admission process, college application essay writing, and career opportunities for students after college, and will take about eight hours during the block. Moreover, students will be offered excursions in the Colorado Springs vicinity and other extra-curricular opportunities. Students also have the opportunity to experience Colorado College's one-course-at-a-time (Block Plan) approach to learning in small class environments. Students receive college credit from Colorado College for their successfully completed course work. The dean and assistant dean are available to advise high school students on course selections. To be accepted to the Colorado College Summer Session, high school students must submit a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or counselor, along with the completed application form and a current copy of high school transcripts. A limited amount of financial aid is available for high school students.
